These instructions are for PhD/MS applicants. These applicants should also review the Stanford Graduate Admissions website for university-wide admissions policies, which we link to in our own instructions where appropriate. In cases where the instructions on our department website differ from the Stanford Graduate Admissions website (e.g., the number of official transcripts required), you should follow the instructions on our department website.

Step 4: Submit Official Materials
We require applicants to submit official transcripts and test scores to validate the information submitted in the online application.
❏ Official Transcripts
Select one (1) of the following methods to submit an official transcript from every college/university you attended for at least one year as a full-time student:
Option 1: Arrange for one (1) set of transcripts to be mailed to our department at the following address:
|Option 2: If your institution offers a secure electronic delivery service (e.g., Parchment, eSCRIP-SAFE, National Student Clearinghouse), you may arrange for one (1) copy of the official electronic transcript to be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.|
|Option 3: Stanford alumni who have active SUNet IDs may utilize the eTranscript Service embedded in the online application to submit official Stanford transcripts electronically.|
Note: Current Stanford students should upload their unofficial Stanford transcript (download in Axess) instead of requesting an official eTranscript. After submitting your application, send an email to email@example.com to request that we update your transcript status to "Received (Official)."
Option 4: Applicants from international institutions may utilize the CollegeNet Document Service directly through the graduate applications (i.e. VeriFile, CHESICC for transcripts from institutions in China).
❏ Official TOEFL Scores
Arrange for official TOEFL scores to be sent directly to Stanford from Educational Testing Service (ETS). Stanford’s ETS institutional code is 4704; an individual department code number is not necessary. If you do specify a department code, this will not negatively impact the score delivery.
Official transcripts and TOEFL scores received after the deadline will not have a negative impact on the review of your application, as long as you provide unofficial transcripts and self-reported test scores in the online application by the deadline.
