Professor Emeritus Umran Inan was awarded the 2023 John Adam Fleming Medal of the American Geophysical Union for his pioneering discoveries and technical leadership in lightning-ionosphere coupling and magnetospheric wave-particle interactions.

The John Adam Fleming Medal is given annually to one honoree in recognition of original research and technical leadership in geomagnetism, atmospheric electricity, aeronomy, space physics, and/or related sciences.
