Congratulations to Manchen Hu, EE PhD candidate, on being awarded the 2024 Optics and Photonics Scholarship by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics. This scholarship is awarded to individuals for their potential contributions to the fields of optics, photonics, or related disciplines.

Manchen is an EE Ph.D. candidate, whose research focuses on the advancement of ultraviolet light-emitting devices and infrared sensor technology, under the mentorship of Professor Dan Congreve.

"My journey into optics and photonics began with a passion for photography, evolving into advanced research on UV-light sources and near-infrared sensors for night vision," says Manchen Hu. His work bridges theoretical knowledge and practical applications, aiming to revolutionize healthcare and environmental conservation through innovative LED and sensor technologies. Hu’s numerous publications and patents reflect his commitment to advancing the field. Beyond research, he is dedicated to mentoring others and active in community service, fostering future talents and enhancing academic collaboration in optoelectronics.
