Congratulations to Professor Lambertus ‘Bert’ Hesselink! He has been elevated to Fellow in the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). Election as an Academy Fellow is the highest professional distinction awarded solely to inventors.
Bert is a well-recognized, world-leading scientist and engineer. He is a leading pioneer in the development ultra-high density optical and data storage technology. Bert invented novel X-ray scanners that are used in a variety of applications. He demonstrated the first remotely controlled laboratory. He developed protocols for secure data storage, access, control and sharing over computer networks. Bert is currently focused on developing highly efficient thermoacoustic heat pumps that can be operated with hydrogen as a source of fuel for the energy transition that we need around the world. His list of 103 patents covers many of these applications, a large majority of which have been licensed to four companies.
