About the talk: Reducing design time can make the difference on a successful product. For intellectual property licensing, reducing design time and maximizing flexibility for reuse is critical. This talk will explore strategies of using highly automated design approaches to cut the time for feedback on design iterations, reduce the mental barrier to performing experiments, build intuition and improve understanding of circuit designs. Adding custom programming on top of CAD tools provides a lot of flexibility in design representation. Designs can be fully parameterized, so they are process independent and can be programatically customized with a wide range of features for easy reuse. By describing designs through their differences, a large family of designs can be efficiently represented. By embedding all design information into the design databases, including dependencies, documentation and characterization strategies, designs are easily maintained and the burden on designers can be eliminated.

About the speaker: John Maneatis has a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from U.C. Berkeley, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. He has decades of experience in analog/digital circuit design and in computer aided design of integrated circuits, co-founded True Circuits, Inc., and is world renowned for his work in the area of Phase-Locked Loop design. He has taught graduate level courses in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University served as an associate editor for the Journal of Solid State Circuits, served as member of the International Solid-State Circuits Conference program committee, written numerous papers, and filed multiple patents.
