Abstract: It is widely accepted that scalable quantum computing will rely on some form of error correction. For the past 20 years the so-called "surface code" has received the most attention, both from theory and experimental groups. Recently, however, there have been several advanced in more abstract constructions that promise much increased performance, commonly referred to as "qLDPC codes." We will discuss these advances and remaining open challenges for qLDPC codes to be viable.
