Abstract: In conjunction with the launch of the new Sustainable Mobility Center at Stanford University, Mathias Carlbaum, President and CEO of International Motors (formerly Navistar), will share his perspectives on decarbonizing the trucking industry, covering both technological solutions and market developments. Attendees will gain insights into the current state of decarbonization strategies in both light and heavy-duty trucking from an industry leader who has implemented science-based climate goals and developed strategies across North America, Europe, and Latin America. International Motors, LLC (formerly Navistar International Corporation), headquartered in Lisle, Illinois, is a global leader in the development of commercial medium-and heavy-duty vehicles, including trucks and buses. As of 2019, International Motors employs approximately 13,000 people and operates a distribution network spanning 1,000 dealer outlets across the United States, Canada, Brazil, and Mexico, in addition to more than 60 dealers in 90 other countries. Since 2021, the company has been a subsidiary of Traton, the heavy-vehicle division of the Volkswagen Group, which includes the brands Scania, MAN, International, and Volkswagen Truck & Bus.
Bio: Mathias Carlbaum is President and CEO of International Motors, LLC and a member of the TRATON SE Executive Board. Under his leadership, the company has gained market share in North America and has substantially increased profitability following the 2021 merger with the TRATON GROUP. Carlbaum led International’s efforts in support of the United Nations Global Compact initiative, reinforced the establishment of Powering America’s Commercial Transportation (PACT) alongside industry peers, and is driving further integration of software into International products to drive efficiency, safety and add customer value. Prior to his role at International, he served as Executive Vice President, Commercial Operations of Scania CV AB in Södertälje, Sweden; Sales and Marketing Director for both Scania Hispania and Scania Latin America; and Vice President, Sales and Marketing of Scania Latin America; Managing Director of Scania Iberica (Spain and Portugal); and Managing Director of Scania Brazil. Carlbaum has a Master of Business Administration from Umea University in Sweden.
