ABSTRACT: A detailed description of Coherent Corp. will be provided in this seminar. Coherent is one of the world’s premier photonics and advanced materials companies. The talk will include a summary of the Networking segment, the Materials segment, and a deep dive on the various products within the Lasers Segment. This may be a useful seminar for those students (undergraduate & graduate) and post-docs interested in working in the photonics industry. Time will be allotted at the end for any questions on Coherent, and more general questions on career paths in industry.

Bio: Loucas Tsakalakos is a Director of Engineering at Coherent Corp. He received his BS degree (1995) from Rutgers University, and his MS (1998) and PhD (2000) degrees in Materials Science & Engineering (with minors in Solid State Physics and Microelectromechanical Systems) from the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Tsakalakos has spent over 25 years working in industrial R&D and engineering. In 2023 he joined Coherent as a Director of Engineering within the Lasers Segment. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi (The National Engineering Honor Society), is the author or co-author of over 50 journal, conference proceedings, and book chapter publications, has given over 70 presentations at international conferences and workshops, and holds 19 U.S. patents.
