Inside the Nature Portfolio: science publishing and editorial decision making
Spilker 143
ABSTRACT: Understanding the role of editorial evaluation is crucial, especially in today's dynamic landscape where diversity is ever-present yet often overlooked. This talk will explore the three key stages of research and publishing: effectively identifying current research gaps, understanding the significance of a journal's identity, and providing an in-depth look at the decision-making process. We will reveal how Nature Portfolio editors navigate the complexities of research and publishing to curate journal content remaining firmly bound to the core principles of the Journal but also with vision on innovation.
Bio: Cristiano joined Nature Communications in February 2021. He received a B.S. degree from the University of Camerino and a MSc in physical chemistry from the University of Pavia. He obtained his PhD from the Institute of Material Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CISC), with a thesis on hybrid plasmonic-photonic nanostructures for enhanced spectroscopies. After his doctorate, Cristiano started as an Assistant Editor at MDPI and few months later moved to the Nature Portfolio where he is now a Senior Editor. His team deal with quantum, atomic, molecular and optical physics and in he is responsible for the content in the areas of photonics, nonlinear optics, lasing, nanooptics, integrated optics and metamaterials.
