International Students: Request Your Visa Document
Deadline: As Soon As Possible
In order to register as students, Stanford University requires that all those who are not U.S. citizens or U.S. registered permanent residents must obtain and maintain an appropriate F-1 or J-1 visa status for their stay in the U.S. Most international students in EE study with an F-1 visa. For more information on the student visa types, see bechtel.stanford.edu/immigration/visa-types/f-1j-1-student-visas.
To request your visa document:
- Submit your I-20/DS-2019 Request via the online form in Axess: Learn More | Questions?
- The Office of Graduate Admissions will review your documents to confirm matriculation requirements. (4-5 weeks)
- Your request will be forwarded to the Bechtel International Center: Learn More | Questions?
- Bechtel will issue your visa document.

Stanford's Office of the Vice Provost for Graduate Education (VPGE) is pleased to sponsor the Graduate Summer Institute (SGSI): immersive, interactive, interdisciplinary courses for incoming and current Stanford graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. SGSI courses offer a unique opportunity for broad, cross-disciplinary learning, catalyzing new connections among graduate students and postdocs across the entire Stanford community. Jumpstart your energy education at Stanford. Build your personal energy network at Stanford and hear about current research from 30 Stanford energy “Rock Star” faculty and expert speakers. Develop a broad perspective on energy and meet Silicon Valley energy entrepreneurs and venture capitalists. Visit a local energy company in Silicon Valley. The four-day course will allow you to meet other incoming graduate and professional school students who have an interest in energy, with the intent of building an interdisciplinary community across campus. Summer English for Foreign Students (EFS) Program
2022 Summer English Programs
EFS is an intensive course intended for students who plan to begin full-time graduate study at a US university in the upcoming academic year. Geared toward preparing students for participation in graduate-level courses in English, the program includes courses in listening comprehension, discussion, oral presentation and academic writing. These classes provide intensive English study through task-based assignments and activities typical of graduate-level courses.
