Professor Subhasish Mitra named the William E. Ayer Professor in Electrical Engineering. The late Mr. Ayer, founder of Applied Technologies, established the professorship in 1983 to support faculty in EE.  

Subhasish received his EE PhD from Stanford in 2000. He joined the faculty in 2006 and has since established himself as a world leader in circuits and systems design, influencing almost every contemporary electronic system and inspiring government and research initiatives in multiple countries. His broad approach and focus on developing tools and systems has made his work highly influential in academia while also being used in the chip industry.  

Subhasish’s work has earned him numerous honors, including most recently the 2022 Harry H. Goode Memorial Award by the IEEE Computer Society for outstanding contributions in the information processing field. In 2021, he received the Semiconductor Industry Association & Semiconductor Research Corporation University Researcher Award for lifetime research contributions to the U.S. semiconductor industry. He’s also a fellow of ACM and IEEE.  

Subhasish joins professors emeriti Roger Howe (2009-2023), R. Fabian Pease (2000-2009), Joe Goodman (1988-1999), and Robert White (1984-1987) as a holder of this chair.
