Source," Optics Lett. 8, 477-479 (1983). The authors report results
of CW degenerate four-wave mixing experiments on room-temperature GaAs-GaAlAs
multiple-quantum-well material using a commercial semiconductor diode laser as the sole
light source. With CW powers of approximately 3 mW and intensities of approximately 13
W/cm/sup 2/, the authors observe diffraction efficiencies of approximately 10/sup -4/,
corresponding to an effective nonlinear coefficient of chi /sup 3/ approximately 6*10/sup
-2/ esu
