SCPD EE TA/Advisor FAQ

  1. I noticed Stanford offers online certificate programs in EE. Is it necessary to have an undergraduate degree in EE to pursue one of these certificate programs?

Answer: Yes, an undergraduate degree is required. All of the courses in our certificate programs are graduate level.

  2. Can the credits earned in these certificate programs then be applied to a Master's degree?

Answer: Up to 18 units earned in graduate courses as a Non Degree Option student may be applied toward an engineering master's degree (MS), if you are accepted into a Stanford engineering master's degree program. With respect to any master's degree at another university, you would need to contact the master's program of interest to you and to discuss what courses would be recognized as appropriate to the degree and how many units could be transferred toward degree study.

  3. I heard that NDO students are not allowed to take any class that is not offered via distance learning. I am very much interested in attending a course that is not offered via distance learning. Isn't there anyway I can attend this course on-campus as NDO student.

Answer: Generally you cannot attend on-campus-only courses as an NDO student. Contact Cam Moore (camoore@stanford.edu) if you have questions.

  4. I want to find out if a certain class will be available online or not?

Answer: Usually such information is available at SCPD homepage under academic schedule (available through the Jump To menu). If you are still not sure, send all delivery related and registration related questions to scpd-registration@stanford.edu.

  5. I'm auditing a course this quester. Am I able to receive lecture handouts?

Answer: Auditors do get handouts as they become available through SCPD or are placed on the course website. Please contact scpd-registration@stanford.edu if you are not getting handouts.
